When painting accent walls it’s very important to choose the right wall and color.  Because accent walls break up space, the colors can give a different feeling, making your space appear larger.

The rule of thumb when it comes to accent walls is the 60-30-10 rule.  The rule states that 60% of the room should be your primary color, and that 30% of the room should be your secondary color, and lastly, the 10% should be your accent color.

One thing to keep in mind is that your primary color and accent color should be contrasting colors.  So typically, accent wall colors are darker to add contrast, highlight a wall, or make the area feel bigger.
